Loops and presets? Nah.
Some apps give you pre-baked loops and call it "music creation." DAWG actually synthesizes audio. When you play a note, it fires up a real voice with its own oscillator, filter, envelope, and effects chain. The sound is built sample by sample, in real time, on the audio thread.
Same approach as professional synth plugins. The difference is DAWG wraps it in an interface anyone can pick up.
What happens when you press a key
Every note runs through this chain:
- Oscillator stack - raw waveform generation. Sine, saw, square, triangle, pulse, plus wavetable synthesis across 5 banks (BasicShapes, Digital, Formant, Harmonic, PWM).
- Filter - SVF with low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch. Resonance from smooth to screaming.
- Envelope - full ADSR per voice. Controls how the sound grows, holds, and fades.
- Saturation - warmth, grit, or full-on distortion.
- Effects - reverb, delay, chorus, spatial. Per instrument.
That's per voice. 81 voices running at once means 81 of these pipelines, all in real time.
Zero GC. Zero dropouts.
Audio code can't pause. Even one millisecond of hesitation and you hear a click. Most game engines have a garbage collector that stops everything periodically to clean up memory.
DAWG's DSP layer allocates nothing on the audio thread. No new, no temp objects, nothing for the GC to find. Voice state lives in pre-allocated arrays. Result: glitch-free audio, even on budget phones.
Sample-accurate timing
DAWG doesn't "trigger sounds at roughly the right time." Every note lands on an exact sample position in the audio buffer. That's why the timing feels tight and professional - same precision as a proper DAW.
Why should you care?
Honestly, you don't need to think about any of this. The engine is invisible - you just tap notes and it sounds good. But here's why it matters:
